Scott -First, apologies for any multiple copies you got of my
message of Friday evening. Please find attached a slightly
modified version of my comments on the mss - see especially
page 13 on the overlap issue. I haven't had time to check
specifics about how many of the Vaganov et al ring width series
used in MBH98 were from sites also in the Schweingruber
network - my guess is that almost all are. Still only 19 of the
ITRDB density series used in MBH98 were Schweingruber data
(the other three were two from me and one from Cleaveland).
Only these 19 passed our quality control).A precise number on
co-location of Russian records in the two datasets could be
checked by comparing geogrpahic coordinates along with the
VSM 96 book, which is where the ring width index data came
from. We definitely did not use density data from those Russian
sites, only ring width.
Now I'm really headed out of town.
